This contemporary clubhouse is designed to connect people, landscape and leisure, all delivered with a carefully managed budget.

The background
After losing their previous clubhouse to a fire, Uphall Golf Club embarked on a mission to build a new, modern home. The vision was not only to serve their members but also to create a welcoming destination for the wider local community — golfers and non-golfers alike.

The design approach
Maximising the vistas over the fairways was central to the orientation and design of the new clubhouse which sits prominently at the heart of the course. Striking floor-to-ceiling glazing rises to a peaked canopy, providing just a touch of shade to enjoy the views in comfort.
The new building houses all of the club’s operational needs, including administrative offices, pro-shop, a golf simulator and modern changing facilities. Alongside these core functions are the clubhouse’s main social spaces: the members’ bar and restaurant, both of which are also open to the wider community.
The interiors team worked in close collaboration with the club and its hospitality providers throughout the design, to develop a cohesive and contemporary design for all key areas. Working within tight financial constraints which were driven by the insurance settlement from the fire damaged clubhouse, contemporary, quality spaces have been delivered including all furniture, fittings and equipment, integration of the AV technology and the full fit out of the bar and kitchen.

Efficiency and sustainable were important factors for the new facility and so the building uses air source heat pumps and extensive PV to provide clean energy. Community engagement began during the build, using local businesses and friends of the club wherever possible in the construction of the new clubhouse.

The impact
Since the reopening the new clubhouse has been instrumental in increasing both footfall and membership, reinforcing its role as a social and sporting hub within the community.
