This expansion to an award winning restaurant delivered on the ambition to create an urban and contemporary venue which delivers a memorable guest experience.
The background
Located in the heart of St. Andrews, the highly renowned and multi-award winning Adamson Restaurant occupies a prominent location in a former Post Office building. We were commissioned to expand the current offering involving the design and fit-out of the adjacent former sorting office building which was in a state of disrepair, to create a new destination champagne and cocktail bar.
A narrow, off street access point created the opportunity for gently lit wayfinding towards the newly instated chic timber and glass entrance. From a narrow entrance customers are taken immediately into view of a double height bar, creating a dramatic entrance to the venue.
The design approach
An original dilapidated staircase and partitions were removed to create a central open space whilst giving a respectful nod to the original sorting office by exposing the steel trussed roof. This was coupled with a subtle material palette and feature finishes to create a contemporary cocktail bar.
The natural division from the existing building enabled, with careful planning, the incorporation of a kitchen preparation area and a significant back of bar area for storage and glass wash facilities.
Attention to detail was critical to the success of the project. Our team were hands-on, working closely with specialist trades and suppliers including the client’s interior designer, Ian Smith Design and fit-out contractor Bentley to ensure a high standard of finish that aligned with The Adamson brand and market expectation.
After completion, the Adamson Bar was shortlisted for several prestigious trade and design awards.
The Adamson is a well established and much loved venue in St Andrews. We were compelled to reflect the same quality in our design and delivery as its visitors associate with the venue experience
