"It's reignited my passion for what we do"

Article 25’s ‘Next Gen talks’ is an event series dedicated to bringing together the next generation of professionals in the built environment, for meaningful discussions and networking. 

Mark Watson and Aleksandra Patarova, both Architects, attended June’s event which explored how urban planning and architecture can drive social change.  

The evening began with the chance to meet peers from across the industry, followed by presentations giving insight into the inspiring work that Article 25 do in less developed countries. Scenarios including post-hurricane housing reconstruction, illustrated not just the practical challenges of these environments, but also the critical role of community engagement. 

Themes of inclusivity and resilience reinforced the idea that - even in emergency and disaster situations – the needs and voices of those we design for remain central. Social equity and sustainability were shown to be just as vital as financial feasibility in preserving the livelihoods of communities. 

The event served to reignite our Architects' passion for the work they do, recognising the incredibly positive impact it can have on people’s lives.

Bikem Korkuter McHugh, our Interiors and Workplace lead and Fiona Wylie, an Architectural Assistant, both attended the launch of the Next Gen events in March, sponsored by Rolton. A case study of the incredibly impressive Collège Hampaté Bâ in Niger was presented, which has delivered new classrooms and facilities to enable the college to accommodate up to 1200 children from primary school age through to six form.
