Custodial + Justice

Design for nurturing, inspiring and trauma-informed environments

Oberlanders sectors custodial justice

We design people focused spaces which promote inclusivity, equality and diversity. Through technically informed, sustainable solutions we resolve functional requirements and operational flow with robustness, security and longevity in mind.

Creating technically resolved, innovative design solutions, be it for backlog maintenance work to existing buildings or complex new buildings, ensures that a client’s technical requirements are adhered to. Our designs are founded on using robust materials to safeguard longevity whilst also promoting a calming and welcoming environment for visitors, particularly children who may feel intimidated or anxious. Sequencing, phasing and buildability strategies which are focused on the safety and wellbeing of staff and occupants are core design principles. The robust testing of ideas and continuous stakeholder engagement enables designs which are creative, compliant and fit for the future.

We have worked in the custodial and justice sector for many years on a range of projects from new build to refurbishment and across many environments, all with differing custodial needs. At the heart of designing for these needs, is a commitment to understand how all stakeholders use a space, right from the start. This is how we approach every project.
