Wavegarden Scotland, Edinburgh
Oberlanders are currently working with Wavegarden Scotland to deliver Scotland’s first in land surf destination within Craigpark Quarry on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Oberlanders have developed the building designs and opted for a modular building approach to meet the client’s requirements to reduce the onsite construction time. Oberlanders visited the modular building contractor’s factory prior to the project, to observe the benefits of modular construction. The factory visit enabled us to fully understand the process from design development through to the project completion. Working collaboratively with a modular building contractor, Oberlanders have developed a series of buildings offering a range of facilities which support the surf activities.
The main building comprises three blocks each with its own distinct character arranged around a central sheltered plaza which benefits from fantastic views over the water. The food hall which can accommodate up to 140persons has been designed as a flexible space flooded with natural light. The central surfing block accommodates the Surf School Reception, Surf Shop, Health Spa, Wet suit area as well as a High-Performance Centre and offices. A standalone changing block based on a “changing village” concept offers unisex and fully inclusive facilities for all visitors including large groups and families. The users experience and privacy is fully respected through the provision of individual changing and shower cubicles for up to 50 persons at a time.
