Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team Base, Melrose
Oberlanders have now completed the new Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team base at Melrose in the Scottish Borders. The new base will facilitate emergency response call-outs to the team’s operational area which extends across the Lothians and Borders. The building, as a former retained fire station, was extremely well suited to the needs of the team, with some careful adaptation to provide new training and storage facilities as well as new renewable energy technologies e.g. solar PV panels and an air-source heat pump. The building is prominently located in the heart of the Melrose conservation area, overlooking the famous Greenyards rugby ground.
The completed building was officially opened on Saturday 5th May 2018 by Major General Mark J Strudwick on behalf of the Order of St John, who provided significant financial support to the project as part of their ongoing commitment to Scottish Mountain Rescue. (photography by Chris Humphreys)
