Scourie Rocks Geological Museum, Scourie
CH Architecture and Oberlanders have recently completed the design proposal for a new Geological Museum to house the Shelley Collection which has been recently acquired by Grosvenor Estate and gifted to Scourie Community Development Trust, for the purposes of retaining and displaying the internationally acclaimed collection of rocks, minerals and fossils in Sutherland.
It is anticipated that the Geological museum will create a must-see attraction on the NC500 and provide the community of Scourie with a cultural base for the outreach programme which they plan to deliver both to tourists and the wider community. The project has now been submitted for planning approval and will include a 250m2 exhibition focusing on crystals and minerals, the geology of Scotland and fossils. The facility will also include an archive, education room, multi media suite and cafe with expansive views over Scourie bay and the island of Handa beyond.
Due to COVID19, community consultation was done virtually and can be watched here here
