Galson Estate Business Centre, Isle of Lewis
Urras Oighreachd Ghabhsainn (Galson Estate Trust), had been housed in a building which was devastated by fire in February 2019 and are currently in temporary accommodation.
CH Architecture and Oberlanders have been working with the Trust to develop their brief and design a new building which would accommodate the changing needs of the organisation. Keen not to replicate what had been there before, the client encouraged us to embrace the landscape setting and to look at ways in which the wider site could be best utilised. The resultant proposal includes the new building and a landscaped area for camper van parking. The project has moved at pace and now has both planning permission and a building warrant and the tender package has just been issued to contractors.
Flexibility and future proofing is a key aspect of the design. The building includes a public exhibition and interpretation area which compliments the office and meeting room accommodation and it is anticipated that the building will be used for seminars and small conferences.
