Planning application submitted for Gold Standard affordable homes
Feb 09, 2021
Tillydrone is part of ‘The Aberdeen City Council Housing
Programme 2022’ seeking to address the long-term shortage of affordable social
rented housing within the city. This aspiring project is one of four within the
city aiming to increase the wellbeing and sustainability of the cities’
affordable housing stock.
The programme’s brief is the creation of 21st century housing that is high quality, economic, sustainable, energy efficient and incorporates a degree of flexibility to meet varying future needs of tenants. The development will meet the Gold Standard of sustainability, ensuring warm, comfortable, healthy homes with a high level of energy efficiency. Thermal performance will meet Energy Savings Trust guidance, complying with ACC sustainable building standards for council-controlled buildings and developments. The 72 new homes (in a mix of flats and houses) will strengthen community spirit and enhance neighbourhood identities, with residential streets where space is safely shared between pedestrians and vehicles.
The needs of elderly and disabled people underpin every aspect of the development. Dementia friendly design is at the core of our design solutions for 54 of the homes. The development includes 26 homes which are fully accessible, with all others designed to allow adaption for Varying Needs, including those with additional support needs. Wheelchair users will have unassisted access to the lowest level of houses.
Subject to obtaining the necessary consents work will begin on site in August.
