SELECT Office Headquarters, Penicuik
Oberlanders Architects were commissioned to design a new purpose-built HQ for SELECT - The Scottish Electrical Contractors Association. The complex was designed to fit within the walled garden of the Grade B listed Bush House in Penicuik, Midlothian.
The design completed the geometry of the garden wall, with the largely single storey development featuring an entrance hub linking the public side to the glazed private garden elevation. The interaction between building and garden was further exploited through the landscape design. The restored garden features new paths running from the building to listed gates within the wall. External lighting within the garden includes wall wash lights emphasizing the gates, along with ‘cat’s eyes’ lighting on paths.
The building was completed in early 2002 at a cost of £2.5m.
