No.1 Slateford Road, Edinburgh
The proposal to regenerate a brownfield site on Slateford Road, seeks to consolidate and enhance the surrounding residential communities. The development embraces new legislation on issues of sustainability, proposing onsite generation of hot water through roof mounted solar heaters, thermally efficient building envelopes and rainwater harvesting. The plans are designed to maximise passive day lighting and natural heat gain through large areas of fenestration to the south, where living spaces are positioned, whilst reducing heat loss through minimal fenestration to the North. A green roof to the pavilion block, and a green deck over the semi-subterranean car park increases the sites biodiversity creating 1000m² of new public outdoor amenity and recreation space. This public space is designed to re-link the old railway steps from Harrison Road to the west and create permeability from Harrison Place to the east of the site.
