Midlothian Schools PPP

Oberlanders Architects were commissioned to design three new “sustainable” primary schools for a consortium led by contractors HGB. The schools were designed to RIBA Stage D as part of Midlothian Councils PPP2 tender on sites in Gorebridge, Stobhill and North Middleton. The design of Stobhill Primary School involved the provision of a new single stream primary school, a nursery and community facilities on a steeply sloping site to replace the existing 1960’s building. The classrooms have been “clustered” around 6.0m high atrium spaces naturally light by clerestory windows. The activity hall is connected to a raised expressive arts space which would double as a school/community stage.
